In the world of shopping malls, scent is an art form. Walk into the right one, and it’s like stepping into a parallel universe where the air is scented with dreams, memories, and the promise of retail therapy. Singapore takes this olfactory experience pretty seriously. Here, shopping malls aren’t just places to buy things; they’re aromatic wonderlands where each mall has its own unique scent profile, carefully curated to evoke emotions and awaken desires.

From passersby raving over the luxurious ION scent to how fresh and crisp Jewel Changi Airport smells – a lot of malls here put a lot of effort into smelling good and it pays off! And if it inspired you enough to want a nice-smelling home too, here’s a guide.

ION Orchard

Perhaps the mall with the most memorable scent – everyone seems to rave about how luxe it smells. If you’re curious, the scent you’re taking in is a unique blend of 20 individual fragrances from natural herbs, fruit and flowers, some of which include bergamot, white tea, mandarin, ginger, white tea, peony, mimosa and wild lavender.

Wisma Atria

Okay, we’re not sure if it has an official smell but the scent wafting in the basement of Wisma Atria is always going to be a core memory for most Singaporeans. Why? Famous Amos. The smell of cookies and something delicious baking will hit you almost immediately when you enter the basement – and we hope it stays that way.

Though not really a mall, the airport terminals also have their own bespoke scent inspired by the gardens in the airport. Diffused around the terminal, the scent mixes orchid, damask rose, ylang-ylang, geranium, mint, citrus, South American yerba mate, white flowers and other Asian spices, for a unique twist.

While you can buy the bottled-up scent as a perfume from the gift store – the scent is called Limitless (and created by Maison 21G) and retails for $89 – we do have some options in different forms that last longer.
