TEXAS, UNITED STATES — How can you tell that you’re now old or what Gen Zs coin as “ancient”?

For one, your back starts to hurt for no apparent reason. Another telltale sign is when you start seeing your childhood showing up as a throwback “retro” style.

Some millennials on TikTok were spooked when they saw 1990s fashion stocked at a supermarket in the United States as “retro” Halloween costumes.

TikTok creator “nicolestorydent” filmed a montage of outfits representing each decade sold at a supermarket in Texas.

There was a full midi skirt from the 1950s, disco party wear from the 1960s, a bohemian chic vest from the 1970s, and neon spandex workout gear from the 1980s.

Then comes the 1990s, featuring swishy hip-hop windbreakers, a Britney Spears-inspired bubblegum pop princess outfit and a 1990s male heartthrob costume, which the content creator winces in horror to.

Topping it off: A butterfly clip and Nokia imitation phone accessory set that screamed the 1990s like no other.

“When you see that your childhood is now a costume,” said the video caption.

The TikTok video, posted in early October, received close to 10 million views and over 6,000 comments in a month, mostly from TikTok users bemoaning that they feel old.

Netizens were particularly amused by the butterfly clip and imitation Nokia phone set.

“Not the butterfly hair clips with the Nokia phone,” said one TikTok user.

Chiming in, a user said: “They forgot the choker necklace.”

However, some disputed the accuracy of the costumes: “Those Nokia phones weren’t even popular till the 2000s. 1990s phones were solid bricks.”

Just when you think you couldn’t feel any older, one commenter said that a 2000s Halloween costume existed: “I think it was worse when I saw a 2000s costume. A. 2000s. Costume!!”
