KUALA TERENGGANU — The education department for Malaysian state Terengganu is investigating allegations of a teacher physically assaulting a student at a primary school.

Terengganu State department school management sector deputy director Azman Othman @ Abdullah said, however, that no statement on the matter could be provided at the moment due to the ongoing investigation.

“We confirm that preliminary action has been taken after viewing a 41-second video circulated on Facebook showing a teacher hitting the head of a student and pushing the student.

“We understand that the incident is said to have occurred in the assembly hall during an assembly held in conjunction with an anti-smoking and vaping programme,” he said when contacted, adding the incident happened at about 10am on Tuesday (Dec 13)

On Thursday (Dec 14), New Straits Times reported that a man — believed to be a teacher — was captured in a video repeatedly hitting a boy, and had received backlash from social media users.

In the video posted on Facebook page “Warga Kuantan Official”, the man was seen reprimanding a boy on a stage that was decorated for a school celebration.

The video, which was likely secretly filmed by an attendee, showed the man shoving and pushing the boy, as well as hitting him on the head.

The video has garnered more than 2,000 views and shares on the social media platform.

Another video uploaded on Facebook showed the same man kicking another boy on the leg. NEW STRAITS TIMES
